What you will learn

Create masks & wearable body sculptural piece whilst exploring the meeting point between performance art & sculpture. You will be using readily available materials such as paper, textiles, wire, plaster bandage and wood with sculptural processes of life casting, modelling and construction. You will explore the concepts around performativity using sculptural forms as vehicle to transform your body & express ideas visually.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Generate ideas to design and make a wearable sculpture
Design an original sculptural piece
Make a wearable sculptural piece using readily available materials
Explore sculptural ideas within performance art context
Understand and practice any relevant Health and Safety processes

Class format and activities

Work on own projects while learning sculptural skills with tutor guidance. Beginners will be given a set project whilst advanced students can apply their knowledge of materials and processes and use their own skills. Group and one to one guidance, instruction, demonstration for all techniquesIn order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

None all levels welcome including beginners. Ideal for all those interested in experimental sculpture, performance art, textiles, fashion, costume and jewellery design.

What you need to know before you enrol

This taster is held at our Pelham Hall site in Lambeth Walk 5 minutes walk from the main building.

Apron or work clothes, strong shoes or boots Sketch book and pencils You may like to bring some of your own materials you'd like to create your wearable sculpture with. Camera / mobile phone camera to record progress
