What you will learn

This course is for all abilities; it provides the opportunity to discover and experiment with making techniques to create and decorate large vessels. You will take part in the smoke firing process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Make large vessels by hand.
  • Decorate with slip, sgraffito and burnish the surface.
  • Understand and evaluate the selected firing process.

    You will be working on set tasks guided by your expert ceramics tutor, Danielle Bunker. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both demonstration and discussion. To ensure that you make the best possible progress, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    Entry requirements

    This course is for all levels: You should have an interest in the materials and the process. If you already have knowledge of ceramics, this course also offers you the opportunity to refresh and develop existing skills, and explore other specialist materials.     What you need to know before you enrol

    The fee includes tuition, and certain specialist materials, alongside use of specialist equipment, including kiln firings etc. However, Learners will be expected to purchase their clay at a cost of £1.50 per pound of leather hard work. You may want to purchase your own small tools.

    What you need

    It would be helpful to bring a sketchbook/notebook/pencils/pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have a limited amount of tools available for use but learners may want to buy or bring in their own tools.
