There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Hybrid course: you will have the choice to attend this course onsite at our Waterloo centre, or completely online. Develop observational skills drawing the figure from life. You may not be able to come into Morley in person but via live stream you can join our class working in real time in the studio at Morley. Switching between camera views you will be able to work directly from the model, receive 1:1 feedback on your work and take part in group discussion. All abilities welcome. Beginners are guided through 6 week drawing course before starting to paint.
This is a practical class, and you will spend most of your class time drawing and / or painting. The course will focus on observational studies drawing and painting from a live model. If you choose the online option, you may also like to draw or paint someone living with you who is prepared to model for you. You could also choose to make transcriptions from existing figure drawings and paintings by artists selected by you or your tutor. Your tutor will communicate with you via email and classes will be presented live online via ZOOM. For all students’ techniques will include: Contour and cross contour drawing with pencil. Weight & modelling with charcoal, brush, and tone. Gesture drawing with charcoal & pencil. Painting will include progressing from a limited to a wide-ranging palette focussing on form and tonal values. Beginners will concentrate on drawing during the beginning stages and will be guided through various techniques with the aim of exploring chosen techniques in more depth over a longer period. Returning students will pursue personal projects working in chosen medium exploring new techniques in painting & drawing. Although there are limitations when working from home, there is an opportunity here to meet with others online, to practice skills and investigate ideas away from the college studio. It might be that your work could (in part) reflect elements from this challenging time.
This flexible and enjoyable course is open to everyone-whether you are a beginner keen to explore or have some experience and wish to develop your drawing and painting skills further. Ability to understand spoken English
This is a hybrid on-site and online course, offered during COVID-19 restrictions. If you choose the online option, you will need to have access to a computer and an email address to receive project briefs and materials You will be asked to download Zoom (instructions to be sent in advance of the course start date).
