What you will learn

This one year level one course takes place at our North Kensington Centre. You will consider topics such as how we protect children, play, development and health and safety. There is no work placement requirement for level one, although voluntary work is always encouraged. You will be introduced to Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings and what it means to work in these sectors. You will learn about health and safety, safeguarding and other interesting topics such as how to organise yourself, work in a team, healthy eating and many others. Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto one of our Level 2 courses in early years or health and social care.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Decide which health, social or childcare profession will best suit you
  • Develop a clear plan on how you will progress towards your career goals

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings [NCFE]

Class format and activities

The course is made up of a variety of modules with a focus on practical assessments. You will be assessed by completing a series of workpacks.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, including English and maths. Functional Skills at Entry Level 3 in English and maths will also be accepted. Progressing Morley students will be considered without the requisite entry requirements if they are able to provide a good reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality from their current tutor.

There are no additional requirements for studying this study programme.

What you need

You should arrive to your lessons prepared to learn with pens, pencils and a writing pad. All other resources and materials you need will be provided. In the event of teaching moving online, you will need a computer with internet access for online lessons via MS Teams on a daily basis.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 2 programme in early years or health and social care.
