This course offers beginners and intermediate students an opportunity to learn or brush up on the basics of metal jewellery making and silversmithing techniques. This course is ideal for those who want to get started with making jewellery from silver, either as a hobby, or for artists/maker-designers who want to develop their jewellery skills further and who work in a craft-based creative industry. You will be introduced to soldering and construction skills for producing pieces such as decorative rings, bangles, earrings and necklaces and small- scale spoons or vessels and making. By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of the process and techniques involved in jewellery making, from start to finish, and you will be able to produce your own finished piece of jewellery. You will also be offered tutor support and advice if you would like to continue making and selling jewellery or want to set up your own studio. Non precious metal will be available from the tutor. You will be expected to purchase your own precious materials.
This course is scheduled to run in a face to face delivery format.
This course is suitable for both complete beginners and for those with previous silver jewellery experience.
No prior experience necessary.
A notebook and pen are useful. We recommend you bring and use you own tools. Students should bring ideas or sketches to the first session to show and discuss to the tutor. Students will pay for materials and studio fee. Some students may want to bring their own materials to have a wider range of choice.
