Do you want to introduce vibrant and brilliant colour to your jewellery? Explore working with transparent enamels on silver to introduce colour, texture and pattern. Learn to grind and wet pack the enamels, fire them in a kiln, introduce cloissonne work and silver foils. Suitable for all levels.
There will be a series of step-by-step demonstrations that will introduce you to the techniques of wet packing, cloisonné and texturing. You will start by preparing your enamels and your silver piece. On the silver we will explore texturing the metal using a variety of tools, including gravers, punches and burrs. Working on our prepared piece of silver we will learn to wet pack the enamels and apply cloisonné wires and foil. We will look at and discuss ways that you can develop enamel jewellery pieces and how your sample piece can be made into a pendant. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, through discussion, show and tell and group crit. The tutor will work with students one-to-one and in groups.
Although suitable for all levels, some previous experience of enamelling and jewellery work will be an advantage.
The jewellery studio is on the 3rd floor of the main building, there is lift access. Some chemicals used may be harmful in pregnancy. Please let the tutor know if you are pregnant. Appropriate Health and Safety guidance will be given as each new technique is introduced.
