What you will learn

This class is designed for those who already sing in the jazz style. You will be encouraged to further develop your jazz singing experience and explore a range of stylistic and vocal techniques in own-choice repertoire guided by the tutor. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • sing a number of jazz standards
  • sing and improvise with more confidence on straight eights tunes
  • have a deeper understanding of scat strategies and techniques.
  • Lead a performance effectively

    Vocal warm ups Learning jazz language Stylistic and improvising exercises Listening and discussion. Assessments will be based on student's performance during the sessions.

    Entry requirements

    Completion of Jazz Singers Workshop 1 or something of a similar level Music reading is an advantage

    What you need to know before you enrol

    There will be periods during the class when you will be encouarged to stand, stretch and move to aid singing. If you have any concerns about mobility please contact the tutor before the class so that alternatives may be suggested if required. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires regular practice (including listening) outside of class time.

    What you need

    Checking class online platform regularly to always be updated about the contents of the lessons and follow any instruction. Occasionally you will need to print your charts and lyrics.
