New class! Intermediate and Advanced Japanese Woodcut on Thursday evenings. This class is an ideal follow-on from the popular Introduction or Beginners Japanese Woodcut classes and will explore in more depth advanced cutting techniques, graduated colour (bokashi). We will look at the work of contemporary Japanese woodcut artists for inspiration, experiment with different carving methods and explore the many variables that make this such a fascinating technique. The class is designed to be a friendly studio environment where the exchange of ideas are welcomed. The tutor Carol Wilhide Justin trained in Japan and RCA and Mokuhanga forms her central art practice. She has just written a book “Japanese Woodcut: Traditional Techniques and Contemporary Practice” for Crowood Press out for publication soon.
