The course "Un viaggio nell’arte italiana’’ offers a captivating journey into the world of Italian women artists through the study of twelve remarkable paintings. Each painting represents a significant contribution to the rich artistic heritage of Italy and showcases the talent, creativity, and unique perspective of the artist. Through engaging discussions in the target language, visual analysis, and historical context, we will delve into the masterpieces created by artists across different periods and styles. We will explore works by renowned Italian women artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Rosalba Carriera, Sofonisba Anguissola, Lavinia Fontana, Plautilla Nelli, Fede Galizia, Elisabetta Siriani, in addition to several lesser known. You will examine the themes, techniques, and symbolism employed in each painting, as well as the social and cultural influences that shaped their creation. Beautiful photos, related texts and activities will give you an opportunity to revise grammatical structures and practice the language at a high level. The course is suitable for students at different language stages, from upper intermediate to advanced.

    You will communicate with video lessons, focus on the language with learning activities and materials between lessons, become more confident in using vocabulary and various language structures. You will get clear guidance and ongoing, regular and informal feedback from your tutor, in a friendly and supportive environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals.

    No formal qualifications are necessary; a upper intermediate knowledge of the Italian language is required to be able to follow the course in Italian only.
