What you will learn

Consolidate and practice the basics of the language for a short stay in Italy. Learn to communicate in a wider variety of everyday situations (e.g. talking about daily routine and leisure activities, expressing opinions, talking about past actions) This course is suitable for those wishing to build on their knowledge of the basics of the language. (Level A1)

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe things and people using common phrases and adjectives
  • Use basic verbal forms to talk about events in the past and present
  • Skim-read short texts on a variety of everyday topics (e.g. personal introduction, work schedules, timetables and numbers) to understand the gist
  • Write short sentences on a variety of everyday topics (e.g. email,personal introduction, past and present hobbies )

    Practice the basics of Italian. Write basic short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises. Follow and give simple presentations.Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games). Following and giving simple presentations. Listening for the gist or basic information, Revising on topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points.     Entry requirements

    We recommend that you achieve the learning outcomes of Italian Stage 1 Unit 2 or the equivalent of 30/40 hours before enrolling for this course. Also suitable if you learnt Italian some time ago and would like to start again at near beginner’s level.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time, for revision and consolidation ensuring that our learning outcomes are achieved.
