What you will learn

Italian cinema, is worldly renowned for the Neorealism but in recent years, has produced some isolated masterpieces that have also won significant prizes, such as the Oscar at the Best Foreign movie. From 1990 to today 4 Italian films have been awarded the prestigious prize. We will look at the evolution of Italian cinema, including the historical and social context and at the portrait of the Italian society that emerges from the films.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Practice your linguistic skills
  • Gain insight into different cinematographic movements
  • Develop awareness of Italian cinema from 1940 to the present

    Practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games) Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises. Listening for the gist or basic information.

    We recommend that you have completed Stage 3 Unit 3 or equivalent before enrolling for this course.
