The tutor will guide you throughout the course giving regular feedback and encouragement in a workshop style presentation. You are encouraged to share your musical ideas and to join in a positive discussion each week.

    Entry requirements

Entry is by an informal audition with the tutor. You should be of a good technical and musical standard with basic sight reading abilities and be prepared to work on developing your reading skills both during the class and also with private practice at home. While the tutor will recommend suitable pieces throughout the term, you are also encouraged to bring your own repertoire ideas to share with the class. Please note that as the tutor cannot always provide individual parts, you may be requested to make your own copies for learning purposes and to visit the free online Petrucci library (IMSLP) where scores can easily be downloaded freely.

What you need to know before you enrol

You will be required to practise the given repertoire during the week in preparation for each session. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.

    What you need

Instrumentalists will need to bring their own instruments and a copy of any sheet music as agreed with the tutor. Pencil and rubber. Enthusiasm and commitment!

    What you can do next

The course runs throughout the year and can be successfully repeated. You may also progress to a higher level chamber music class, such as 'Advanced Chamber Music & Accompaniment' or 'Chamber Performers' Group'. You may also be interested in any instrumental courses, such as 'Piano Workshop 6/7', 'Sunday Flute Choir', 'Morley Wind Ensemble' and 'Piano Duos & Duets'.
