What you will learn

Create textiles in a stimulating and sympathetic environment developing your own projects with a view to exhibiting and working to commission. Special attention will be given to current exhibitions, study days and current textiles practice. This course is suitable for those with advanced textiles experience, such as a degree, or who have completed the Textiles Foundation course, who wish to further their practice in this and related areas including preparing a professional portfolio. The group hold an end of year exhibition and participate in other opportunities arising through Morley. Entry is by informal interview with a portfolio of recent work. There is a studio fee for cloth and some specialist materials.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Develop ideas and critical thinking through historical, contemporary and practical research
  • Work on either an indiviual or group project to enhance personal practice
  • Explore a range of textile processes
  • Work with a variety of manipulated, printed, machine or hand stitch techniques
  • Optional focus sessions on specific techniques

    Class format and activities

    There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with students one-to-one and in groups. In order to ensure that you make best possible progress on your course you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    Entry requirements

    This course is suitable for students who are Intermediate and advanced practioners or have completed the Textile Foundation course at Morley College

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The studio is on the second floor of the Nancy Sears Building, accessed by lift to the first floor and stairs or stair lift to the second floor. If you have any mobility support needs please contact ALS on 020 7450 1972 or Art and Design admin on 020 7450 1934 before enrolling.

    A sketchbook or notebook plus pen and pencil.
