What you will learn

This course will offer both introductory and intermediate skill building in relief printing using lino with glass enamel and powders. You will explore methods of printmaking that produce beautiful textured surfaces and feelings of other worldliness through the use of intricate marks.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Learn about the nature of glass, fusing techniques and how to cut glass
  • Design and make a small dish or a tea light holder, a coaster and a couple of glass items

    Teaching takes place in practical workshops with both group demonstrations and discussions and support. All students negotiate personal learning goals and projects with the tutor. You will be able to explore materials, textures, surface quality, colours in different styles. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    We have basic tools in the workshop which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. We have glass and other materials that can be sold in the studio; however, some students may want to bring materials to have a wider range of choices.

    What you need

    Bring ideas or sketches to the first session (not obligatory). You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals); An apron; It would also be helpful to bring; Sketchbook/ notebook A4, Pencils/coloured pencils/ pens; Marker pen (Pilot Sign pen is good).

    What you can do next

    This course is for beginners, intermediate and advanced students, so returning students are very welcome. There is a lot of individual tuition to cater to individual goals. The course links well to architectural projects and other glass courses that explore surface decorations using fusing, sandblasting and etching techniques. Please talk to your tutor for more advice.
