What you will learn

Learners will delve deep into advanced glass casting methods, refining their skills in mould making using wax making, rubber silicone and exploring different shapes using kiln casting, processes. The course emphasizes precision and creativity, guiding students through intricate projects that require a high level of craftsmanship. Participants will explore innovative techniques and learn to troubleshoot common issues. Additionally, the course includes a study of contemporary glass art trends and professional practices. By the end, learners will achieve a high degree of proficiency, capable of producing sophisticated and professional-quality glass artworks.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explore and practice new sculptural techniques and mediums to produce a cast piece.
  • Identify and evaluate the suitability of selected materials within each technique and process
  • Produce original glass artworks and develop the ability to critically evaluate their own work and the work of others, fostering artistic growth and technical improvement.
  • Encourage good workshop practice including Health and Safety Develop critical decision-making skills about your work and as a member of the class/group

    You will be working on set tasks and processes guided by your expert glass tutor, Maria Zulueta. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both demonstration and discussion. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    Entry requirements

    This advanced course is suitable for students of intermediate or advanced levels of experience on casting techniques.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The fee includes tuition, some specialist materials, alongside use of specialist equipment. However, Learners will be expected to purchase materials such as wax, mould making, silicone and the glass (guidance will be given by the tutor on the first session).

    What you need

    It would be helpful to bring a sketchbook/notebook, pencils/pen/marker pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots, or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have basic tools in the workshop, which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. Glass and other materials are available for sale to students; however, Learners may want to buy or bring in their own resources to have a wider variety in choice of materials.
