What you will learn

This course introduces students to some of the key reading and writing skills used in GCSE English. It is ideal for students who have just conpleted a functional skills qualification and who are interested in enrolling for GCSE in the Autumn.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Write a creative description based on a picture
  • Create characters and plots in short stories
  • Identify literary techniques used by writers of fiction to create meaning

Class format and activities

This is an online class. Students will be introduced to a variety of creative writing techniques with examples of texts by a range of authors. The emphasis is on analysing and writing fiction to prepare stydents for the first term of the GCSE course. As well as reading and writing, discussion is an important part of the course.

Entry requirements

Students should have native or near-native command of English and a Functional Skills qualification is advisable. This is an online course so reliable internet and laptop or PC are essential.
