This course is designed for you if you are planning to start a GCSE Maths programme in September 2025 but want to build your confidence and skills first. You will work on key mathematical topics, problem-solving strategies, and exam techniques to help prepare you for the demands of GCSE study. At the end of the course, you will take an assessment, and your overall performance will be reviewed to determine whether you are ready to progress to GCSE Maths or if a different pathway would be more suitable for your learning journey. This course is only open to students who have not previously gained an A-C / 4-5 grade in GCSE Maths.

What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in fundamental mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with integers, fractions, and decimals.
- Understand and apply concepts of geometry and measures, including properties of shapes, angles, perimeter, area, and volume.
- Develop problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning to tackle a variety of mathematical challenges.
- Use Mathswatch to complete assignments, access lesson resources, video tutorials, interactive worksheets, and online feedback.
- Take the GCSE Maths Initial Assessment as part of your application for the GCSE Maths course.
Class format and activities
You will be introduced to a range of digital resources, lessons will be student-focused, you are expected to participate fully and engage in classroom discussion.

We will expect you to have level 1 equivalent maths knowledge. The course is designed to prepare students for taking GCSE maths.

What you can do next
If you did not achieve a grade 4 or C in GCSE Maths you may wish to apply for our GCSE Maths course starting in September. You will be invited into college for a short interview and you will be asked to complete a baseline test as part of the application process.
