What you will learn

This First Steps Into Printmaking Course will introduce you to a range of intaglio printmaking techniques and processes starting from monotype leading into drypoint, etching and aquatint step by step.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • You will be able to understand the differences between non-acidic(drypoint) and acidic (etching) intaglio mediums and develop your technical and artistic skills.

    You will learn to work in the light and well-equipped studio with specialist facilities and develop ideas and imagery into a portfolio of creative prints. Each printmaking technique is taught by demonstration and one-to-one feedback encouraging each student’s personal strengths and interests. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor in a constructive and supportive environment.

    Entry requirements

    These classes are aimed at beginners, those who wish to re-fresh their printmaking skills and those who have a basic arts experience in any other visual arts discipline.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The Printmaking Studio is at the Morley Chelsea Centre, Hortensia Road SW10, just off the Kings Road and Fulham Road, in the Carlyle building, on the ground floor.

    What you need

    You need to bring: a sketchbook and some art equipment such as pencils, eraser, a range of brushes, Stanley knife, scissors and apron. There is a studio fee payable each term to the tutor which covers basic materials, except paper and plates which you pay extra for as you use them. All materials are available to buy in the studio.
