Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Develop hand-drawing skills and understanding of proportion and movements to sketch human figures confidently, particularly, in the context of fashion illustration
Gain proficiency in digital illustration software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, translating traditional sketching techniques into the digital realm, and creating fashion illustrations digitally
Combine techniques and integrate hand-drawn and digital methods to create versatile and visually captivating fashion illustrations
Experiment with mixed media and integrate collage elements, effectively integrating diverse materials and textures to produce innovative and unique fashion illustrations that blend traditional and contemporary elements

Class format and activities

The course is designed to foster a dynamic learning environment that caters to students of varying skill levels and backgrounds. It is oriented towards a process-based approach while nurturing personal creative development. The classes incorporate various teaching methods, including tutor’s demonstrations and presentations, practical learning activities, and group discussions. To ensure continual progress, students receive regular and detailed feedback and guidance tailored to each student’s needs. Good attendance and punctuality are key to achieve in this practical course.

Entry requirements

The course is suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to expand their drawing and fashion illustration skills.

What you need to know before you enrol

Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. Students are generally expected to spend some time outside of class for completion of activities.Please note the eating and drinking is not allowed in the fashion studios - you are allowed to have bottled water. Students must be able to read, write and understand English.

What you need

You will need the following equipment: Paper and fabric scissors, sewing threads, masking tape, drawing materials (watercolour, acrylic paints, coloured pencils, pastel), brushes, A3+ paper, masking tape, eraser. You will also need to budget approximately £10-30 for printing images. The sessions will be carried out on Morley college computers; however, you are welcome to bring your own laptop with installed Adobe Illustrator on it. You can also bring computer mouse or a graphics tablet if you have one. You will also need to budget approximately £10-30 for printing images.
