What you will learn

Do faces fascinate you? Draw and paint from the model and learn to make portraits that are solid and realistic. Use knowledge of proportion, anatomical structure, tonal contrast and colour theory to improve your drawing and experiment with acrylic and/or oil painting. Perfect for beginners and for returners wishing to build on and practice skills.

    Class format and activities

    This is a practical class and you will spend most of your class time drawing and / or painting. You will work on self portraits, and/or transcriptions of portraits by artists selected by your tutor. Your tutor will set you a lesson plan every week with options for self-directed drawing and painting with tutorial support. The class will use group discussions and for short lectures on artists' work.

    Entry requirements

    This is an intermediate / advanced level class and is recommended for those with some drawing and /or painting experience who wish to concentrate on portraiture. Advanced learners will be encouraged to build on and develop their skills and a personal style.

    What you need

    Please bring a Notebook & Sketchbook along with a pen & some pencils to your first class and your tutor will provide a list of materials as the course progresses
