What you will learn

Explore the art of constructed textiles and experiment with macramé. The course will introduce this processes as well as allowing you to explore a variety of materials and produce a series of final samples. You will be encouraged to explore sustainable and recycled yarn initiatives and suppliers.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explore experimental macrame techniques
  • Develp skills and produce a small collection of samples
  • Work towards an outcome with tutor guidance suitable for interiors, fashion or art
  • Learn tools to evaluate and progress ideas in a group setting

    Students will learn through observing tutor demonstration followed by practical experience supported by access to tutorial videos and technical hand outs. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with students one-to-one and in groups. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. There will also be inspirational presentations, and a supplier list.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The textiles studio is located in the Nancy Seear block on the second floor accessible by stairs or lift and stair lift combined. If you have any mobility support needs please contact ALS on 020 7450 1972 before enrolling

    What you need

    The college provides a variety of yarns, tools and materials. It would be helpful to bring a notebook, pencil and pen, and a small pair of scissors (larger scissors are available in the studio) You may wish to bring an A4 folder to store your hand outs and samples and your own yarn if you have specific projects in mind.
