What you will learn

Creative Writing: “Standing Inside My Shoes” Course code: EEE013A “I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes.” - Bob Dylan A weekly class of 2 hours for 12 weeks for L2, L1 and upper E3 students. You will receive both group and individual help. The aim of the course is to, week-by-week, build a short story based on the theme, “Standing Inside My Shoes”. In other words, it will be based on something about yourself from your own life. By the end of the course we will create an online anthology of all the finished stories. This course is intended to help you experience and enjoy creative writing in English. It will also give you much more confidence in written communication in general. In addition, it will extend your vocabulary and improve your grammar and punctuation skills.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Become familiar with different written forms: articles, essays, poetry, stories, etc
  • Practice different written forms
  • Use writing as a vehicle for expressing one's thoughts and feelings
  • Learn to plan one's writing

Class format and activities

The course will cover all these aspects:• Choosing a good story to tell• Finding the right ‘voice’ to tell your story in• Having the words to express yourself• Using grammar to say what you want to say• How to punctuate a story correctly• How to begin a story in a way which grabs a reader’s attention• The components of a well-told story• Writing a good ending• Reading and correcting your own story

Entry requirements

The course is for ESOL students who're at Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2.
