What you will learn

This course is for you:

if you want to continue studying after completing ESOL Entry 1
if you want to have conversations at work and with friends, talking about past, present and future events

In this course, you will develop speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. Each term includes all four skills but focuses on a specific skill for the exam taken in that term. When you pass each skill you will receive a certificate for that particular skill.

To achieve the full ESOL Entry Level 2 qualification, you must pass Speaking and Listening Entry Level 2, Reading Entry Level 2 and Writing Entry Level 2.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • • use your English to participate in general everyday life
  • • tenses including present simple, present continuous, past simple, present perfect and future forms
  • • use a range of vocabulary to talk and write about topics such as life in the UK, different cultures, work, technology, health and enjoyment
  • • make arrangements and appointments on the phone
  • • write short emails and texts
  • • write descriptions of people, places and objects
  • • find information in everyday texts and understand short news stories

Class format and activities

These are in-centre classroom based lessons. Some lessons may be delivered online. Any online classes will take place either on MsTeams or Google Meet. You will work in pairs or small groups or as a whole class group. You will also work on a one-to-one level with your tutor. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening to audios, role play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will also use YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life and work. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you. Assessment methods: At the end of each term, you may take City & Guilds exams for the skill you are studying. If you pass your exams you will receive a certificate from City and Guilds

Entry requirements

• You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English.
• Or if you have passed ESOL Entry level 1, you may enrol onto this course.

What you need to know before you enrol

Term 1 – Speaking and Listening Term 2 – Reading Term 3 – Writing What each term requires:
• attending 2 classes of 3 hours per week
• completion of homework
• a minimum of 90% attendance per term
