What you will learn

If you have some playing experience and a few songs, chords and scales under your belt, and are ready to improve, then this is the course for you. As well as learning famous songs and riffs you will gain fretboard knowledge, improvisation skills, increase your chord and scale repertoire, and learn very practical music theory. A good, fun, group learning experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Play some famous songs and riffs, play various scales and open/barre/power chords
  • Name any note on the fretboard, figure out which notes and chords are in any key
  • Improvise lead guitar solos, choose appropriate scales for each chord you play lead over
  • Use lead guitar techniques, play various scales in various positions
  • Play in various genres

    You will have a strong interest in electric guitar playing and a desire to improve.

    Homework will be given every week and students must be prepared to spend time doing the given assignments and preparing tunes for performance in class.

    You will need to bring your guitar to lessons. Amps will be provided if/when needed. Manuscript paper, notebook and writing materials.
