What you will learn

If you are an absolute beginner, or if you have learned a few chords already, this is the course for you. After learning how to tune your guitar, you will learn your first chords, scales, rhythms and songs this term. A good, fun, group learning experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Tune your guitar, operate pickup and tone controls
  • Play open chords and barre chords
  • Strum simple rhythms and play simple songs
  • Pick single notes, identify the notes on 3 of the 6 strings
  • Understand FX pedals, understand hand positions

    You will have a strong interest in electric guitar playing and a desire to improve.

    Homework will be given every week and students must be prepared to spend time doing the given assignments and preparing tunes for performance in class.

    You will need to bring your guitar to lessons. Amps will be provided if/when needed. Manuscript paper, notebook and writing materials.
