In today's digital world, having essential digital skills is more important than ever. This accredited Essential Digital Skills Qualification (EDSQ) Entry Level course is designed to help you gain confidence and practical knowledge in using digital technology for everyday life and work. Based on the Government’s national standards, this course is free of charge for adults aged 19+ and provides a structured pathway into further digital learning and employment opportunities. At the end of the course, you will take the Essential Digital Skills Qualification Exam at Entry Level 3, giving you a recognised certification of your abilities.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use digital devices effectively, including computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Navigate and manage information, including file storage and retrieval.
  • Stay safe and act responsibly online, understanding cybersecurity risks and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively using digital tools, including email, social media, and videocalls/ conferencing.
  • Create, edit, and format documents using word processing software.

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Essential Digital Skills (Entry 3) [EDEXCEL]

Class format and activities

You will learn in a supportive and engaging environment through a mix of whole-group teaching, small group activities, hands-on exercises, and individual guidance. Lessons will include: Practical demonstrations and interactive tasks. One-to-one support from your tutor to help with individual needs. Use of Microsoft Office 365, MS Teams, and other online resources such as YouTube tutorials and quizzes. Ongoing assessments to track your progress, culminating in a final accredited exam.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for those working towards Entry Level 3 in English literacy. You should have basic familiarity with using a keyboard, email, and the internet. What you need to know before you enrol

Before enrolling, consider your availability and commitment to regular attendance. This course requires active participation in class and personal study time outside of lessons. You must also have an email account and access to a computer or digital device with an internet connection to complete homework and practice tasks.

To succeed in this course, you will need: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access. A working email account. Microsoft Office 365 (including Outlook and Word). Time set aside for personal study and homework (at least 3 hours per week). A willingness to engage, ask questions, and participate in activities.
