What you will learn

A practical introduction to drawing skills, using a range of materials. You will be taught various aspects of drawing from observation including proportion, perspective, line and tone. Examples of historical and contemporary drawing will be discussed in class and learners are encouraged to develop a personal response to subjects including landscape, portraits, objects and photographic images.

    Class format and activities

    This is a practical course, and you will spend most of class time drawing. The course focusses on drawing from direct observation and from photographs, using a variety of materials and techniques. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    Entry requirements

    This structured course is for beginners and for those who want to refresh skills. If you have not drawn before, you may like to try one of our 2 session tasters: "If Only I Could Draw!"

    What you need to know before you enrol

    This course is taught at Morley College Waterloo Centre in studio WC33 which is accessible by lift and stairs.

    What you need

    A sketchbook or pad of cartridge paper; a range of soft pencils, at least a 2B and 4B; a pencil sharpener; an eraser; a box of willow charcoal (medium or assorted widths); coloured pencils or crayons.
