What you will learn

Develop your drawing and painting skills, studying inks, oils, acrylics and mixed media. Identify harmonious composition, form, colour, tone and proportion working from observation, (including the model). Returning students will be encouraged to develop individual projects. Students new to the group will follow an introductory drawing and painting programme for the first 6-8 weeks.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Develop your own Painting and Drawing Project using chosen media and subject area
  • Keep a journal (optional) to embed ideas and progression through the term
  • Know how to use a range different drawing and painting media and the best practice needed
  • Know how to identify and mix warm and cool colours in a range of media
  • Learn how to incorporate form, perspective, light and tone through mark making

    Intermediate students will complete a 6-8 week introductory course in drawing and painting. Advanced learners will continue to pursue personal projects working in chosen mediums. You will have regular technique demonstrations and detailed advice/feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. Whole group discussion and 1:1 assessment with your tutor. .

    Entry requirements

    This is an intermediate / advanced level class and is recommended for those with some drawing and /or painting experience who want to start developing their own interests and ideas. Advanced learners will be encouraged to build on previous project work and develop their skills and a personal style.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    D11 is currently accessible only by stairs and has no lift access. The painting studios have a maximum of 14 learners and you will be expected to comply with any current distancing guidance. We strongly advise that you bring and wear a face protector and you will be asked to wash your hands on arrival. While work stations will be sanitised before your session, you will be required to wipe down your chair, easel and table before you leave using the disinfectant sprays and paper towel provided

    What you need

    During Covid-19 restrictions you will need to bring your own materials as it is not advisable to share: Charcoal, soft pencils, erasers, paints and pastels etc Sketchbook A5 or A4, drawing board clips and/or masking tape. Paper will be provided. Some materials are available to buy at the college and detailed advice on materials will be given throughout the course. Please bring 4/5B pencils x 2 and thick charcoal sticks to the first session. You should bring and wear a face protector. Although hand sanitiser will be provided on the door, it will also be useful to carry your own.
