With ceramic surfaces in mind students will explore drawing and mark making on papers. You will work with graphite and charcoal, inks, wa x resist, frotta ge and some low-tech printmaking techniques such as monoprint and block printing. You will also experiment with making dra wings that can be projected onto 2D shapes and 3D forms as a starting point for generating ideas. The aim is to help give a more explorator y approach to drawing and mark making i n ceramics and to help generate ideas through exploring materials as well as making observation s from and responses to physical objects. Teaching will be by demonstrations, specific exercises and mini projects.
Workshop style class with mostly tutor directed drawing activities but with scope for further, more independent exploration.
None needed apart from an interest in drawing, mark making and exploring techniques and materials.

Nothing essential but if you want to bring sketch books/work in progress for discussion you can. Aprons are a good idea. Materials are provided but if you have drawing materials that you would like to bring, you can, but it is not essential.
Morley College offers a wide range of courses at all levels of ability. Students can also look to progress onto certificated Part or full time Ceramics or 3D courses such as BTEC, BA degree or MA postgraduate courses. Your tutor is also happy to advise in setting up your own studio. Many students go on after several years experience to setting up their own ceramic practice and exhibiting in open studio / house weekends and local and national craft fairs and galleries.
