Printmaking and Bookbinding
…
This course is a creative exploration of artist’s books including bookbinding, printmaking and how illustrative ideas develop through book projects. We will use linocut and mono-printing techniques to create visual journeys through the books and experiment with book structure, visual narrative and the visual language of print. We will explore creative approaches to concertina books and Japanese stab binding, covering skills in stitching, hard covers, windows and using both sides of each book page.
There will be demonstration, group discussion, one to one tuition and practical project work. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
No previous knowledge of bookbinding or printmaking is required. This class is a great introduction to making books and prints.
Health and Safety information will be given at the start of the course and in subsequent lessons wherever necessary. The studio is accessible via a lift and there is an adjustable height desk available.
Pencil, eraser, notebook for taking notes. Your own sketch books and drawings to work from. We will discuss in the first session if there are any other tools and materials you may want to buy or bring in.
You can enrol on a number of other bookbinding or printmaking classes. Please discuss your options with you course tutor.
