What you will learn

This term we will focus on fibre. You will start by making your own cordage from plant leaves. You can then use this or other fibres to make coiled or looped vessels. You will be encouraged to experiment with a wide range of fibres, both natural and manmade, to produce different results and textures.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Select, prepare and handle materials appropriately
  • Start, shape and finish different forms
  • Create pattern, texture and surface decoration as appropriate

    The tutor will demonstrate techniques and bring inspirational samples, You will be given time to practise these techniques with constructive feedback to develop your own projects. Group discussions and one to one support will enable you to progress

    Entry requirements

    No previous experience is necessary, but a degree of manual dexterity is required.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. There is partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.

    Pen and notebook to make notes, folder for handouts. Basic materials will be provided, but you may want to explore others when working on your own projects.
