What you will learn

One day Sculpture Taster course to introduce and practice abstracting the figure in clay sculpture. Using your own life modelled work or choosing class samples as a starting point to then learn and practice techniques to abstract from the figure looking at 20th century and contemporary artists as examples. There will be no life model in this course. All levels welcome.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • All students will explore ways of extending their own clay life modelled projects using different methods to abstract from the figure.
  • All students will be aware of how 20th century and contemporary artists use the figure in non-representational ways
  • Understand simple anatomy, observation and modelling techniques to make a small clay abstracted figure sculpture.
  • Understand and practice the Sculpture studio Health and safety guidelines.

    Group and individual Tutor guidance, Demonstration and Q&A with individual clay modelled exercise and presentation of relevant 20th cent and contemporary artists.
