What you will learn

Consolidate the basics of Chinese and learn some more Chinese characters. Build your confidence as you learn to use language to talk about shopping, eating out and the weather in different situations (e.g. taking about goods prices, talking about food, when shops/services open and close, current activities, comment on other people’s actions)

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Ask about price and bargain when shopping
  • Order food at a restaurant
  • Talk about the weather in different seasons and places.
  • Comment on an action and expressing feelings
  • Recognise and write about 250 Chinese characters

    Develop collaborative skills as you practise speaking and listening. Improve your independence as a learner as you develop your reading and writing skills Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress your individual learning aims will be established during the course. It is important that you are committed to regular attendance. You will have regular and constructive feedback from your tutor.

    Entry requirements

    You should have completed Chinese Mandarin Stage 1 Unit 2 at Morley College or have had at least 35 hours of previous exposure to Chinese

    What you need to know before you enrol

    This course will be delivered online. Regular homework will be given to revise and consolidate what you will have learnt in the class. You should therefore dedicate at least 1 hour for this on a weekly basis.     What you need

    No course book is required. The only requirements are a pen, a notebook and a folder.
