What you will learn

Explore working with resins from mould making, casting, introducing colour and finishing techniques to create some original and exciting pieces of resin jewellery.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    You will be working to your own design and making a master (original form) from a choice of materials, the finished master is then used to make your own mould in silicone rubber. At the following session, when the mould has set, students will begin by making colour and texture tests in resin and then will be using the mould to cast into guided by the results of the resin tests . The final session will cover finishing techniques and fittings of the cast resin pieces. The tutor will give a short talk and provide samples of resin jewellery at an appropriate point in the course.

    Entry requirements

    This course is suitable for all levels, although a basic knowledge of using hand tools will be beneficial.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The jewellery studio is on the 3rd floor of the main building, there is lift access. Some chemicals used may be harmful in pregnancy. Please let the tutor know if you are pregnant and they will advise you as to necessary precautions

    What you need

    Please bring the following with you for the first day:,
    • ESSENTIAL thin cardboard such as a cereal box or similar to be used in making your mould-take from your recycling,
    • Apron, penpencil a notebook/ benchbook to record ideas/ designs/ processes ,
    • All tools needed to take part in the course are available in the workshop. We also provide all of the resin to make your projects. , NOTE: You may need to purchase silver or other materials, the tutor will be able to sell you some at cost price in the studio, this cost should be no more than £10
