What you will learn

Are your sculpture portraits feeling staid? Do you want to learn techniques to capture more character and expression? This two-day online workshop is focused on the process of creating a series of quicker small portraits of the model to learn techniques to capture character and expressions in portrait head clay modelling. You will learn and develop observation skills, clay modelling, and individual approach focusing on achieving expression in portrait head modelling in clay. Some experience of portrait sculpting would be helpful. We will arrange clay and 2 small armatures, as needed for you to work at home. You will be encouraged to do many studies so may only choose to keep and fire a couple. There will not be time to hollow-out your studies but the tutor will give you some pointers. Your hollowed small clay studies you choose to fire from this online class can be brought to Pelham Hall Sculpture studio for firing once the College reopens. Please contact Program Manager Sculpture sheila.vollmer@morleycollege.ac.uk to arrange.
