What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Research and effectively communicate and interpret ideas relating to the production of tailored garments
- Explore concepts, materials and processes through experimentation and testing
- Develop designs, range planning and portfolio building using IT
- Select and effectively use a wide range of media to produce a range of fashion illustrations
- Develop pattern blocks for use in the tailoring and streetwear industry
- Understand cutting, styling, and garment components
- Select and use appropriate specialist equipment and techniques for production of a 3D garment
- Understand fabric properties and characteristics
- Evaluate and analyse project outcomes against intentions and objectives
- Understand contextual, cultural and historical research
- Identify future progression opportunities, enter employment, and respond to professional opportunities or progress to higher education qualifications
On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: BTEC Higher National Diploma in Art and Design [EDEXCEL]
Class format and activities
Teaching is both online and classroom based. Typical activities will take place in the format of direct teaching with tutor demonstrations, peer discussions, practical skill development and use of examples and lectures. Demonstrations with workshop practice will form the main body of the learning environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Entry Requirements
Applicants should have knowledge equivalent to level 3 fashion. GCSEs, grade 4/C or above, in Maths and English (or an equivalent level of qualification) is desirable. For non-native English speakers, an IELTS 5.5 is required. Applications are welcome from anyone who feels that they are capable of reaching the standards required by this qualification. All applicants will be invited to attend an online interview and will be required to present a portfolio of work that demonstrates ability in research skills, drawing, creative thinking and problem-solving skills with an interest in art, design or related subjects including fashion. We always provide full support to students who need extra help in any aspect of their studies, for example to dyslexic students. Learners are expected to have a good standard of computer literacy. Before you enrol
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This is an exciting, hands on course where you will become an accomplished confident creator of tailoring and streetwear clothing with industry experts. Enthusiasm, drive and passion are a must! Students are generally expected to spend some time outside of the taught programme for completion of activities to develop learning, self and peer evaluation.

You need a positive, can do attitude with plenty of enthusiasm for the creative industries. Students are expected to support their own studies through suitable equipment, full guidance and support on this will be provided.
What you can do next
On successful completion of the Level 5 HND learners can progress to Higher Education where you will be able to join the final year of a Honours Degree course. Students are also ready to enter the fashion industry setting up their own businesses or competing to be a part of the larger design houses.
