This course will introduces students to essential skills involved in binding a book by hand. Throughout the course students will gain experience in the use of materials including adhesives, papers and cloths. It will help you understand practical differences between the sewing techniques. The course provides all the support you need to master the basics of bookbinding. The class will be a mixture of demonstrations and practical exercises. You will be taught about how to handle tools, equipment and bookbinding materials with confidence.

No. This course is suitable for beginners or as a refresher if you have done some bookbinding before. It is ideal for people who have an interest in arts and crafts and would like to gain good hand skills in bookbinding.
Pencil, rubber, ruler, bone folder, scissors, awl, cutting mat, cutter/scalpel, craft knife/shoe knife, paper for textblock, decorative paper, bookcloth, linen thread, needle, glue brush/any flat art-brush, glue (bookbinding PVA recommended), waste paper.
Own project. More beginner's bookbinding courses. After discussion with your tutor, you may join intermediate bookbinding courses. Or in another subjects, which you could combine with bookbinding skills, such as printmaking, painting, photography, Adobe InDesign.
