What you will learn

Do you need a kick-start for your poetry? Work with a practising poet, discussing features of modern poetry and exploring some of the skills involved in its creation. Exercises draw on memory, observation and personal meditation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Write new poems using a range of starting points and inspirations
  • Use observation and the five senses effectively in your poetry
  • Begin to understand the effects of sound, rhythm and rhyme in your poetry
  • Discuss and evaluate a poem with sensitivity
  • Begin to recognise your own 'voice' and your own capabilities, and draw strength and confidence from these

    Practical and playful writing exercises designed to stimulate the imagination and promote confidence. Group discussion of published poems. and of each other’s poems in a supportive workshop atmosphere. You will receive advice and guidance from the tutor on all aspects of poetry and help with individual writing problems.

    Entry requirements

    Level 2 in written English, but enthusiasm and the desire to write are equally important.

    This course is delivered online using Microsoft Teams. Students will have access to coursework via Morley Moodle and Microsoft Teams.

    What you need

    Pen and Paper You will need access to a computer / tablet / smartphone with internet access. As a student you will have access to Microsoft 365 which includes Office 365 and Teams. Once you have completed your enrolment details will be sent you.
