Social dancing is back in fashion so come and learn advanced movements to some of the Ballroom and Latin styles - as seen on TV. You’ll learn not only steps but also coordination, and timing, while making new friends, becoming fitter and more confident. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals e.g. progression to an advanced course in styles not yet covered.
You will learn as one of a group and in co-operation with others. The teacher will model the movement and describe it verbally. Learners will practise without and thereafter with a partner. Leaders and followers will change partners in a prescribed, systematic way (although those who wish to be exclusive will be accommodated). The teacher will provide individual feedback. Additional learning resources will be provided as appropriate.
This course is for advanced social dancers and you must know some basic and intermediate figures in quickstep, rumba, and ideally paso doble. No partner is required. You must have a basic understanding of spoken English. If you are pregnant or have any health problem you should consult your GP or specialist physician before enrolling on this course. You should tell the tutor of any physical movement/activity you have been advised to avoid. You must have a basic understanding of spoken English.
Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students. This course may include some completion of activities outside of class time. Photography and film recording of class activities may be used in order to aid learning. These images may also be used for publicity or marketing materials produced by Morley College, both online and in print.
