What you will learn

Explore making a range of artists’ books with a focus on binding techniques, paper folding and creative content. Develop simple but effective printmaking skills to create the visual content of artists’ books. Experiment with combining contemporary book structures with the visual language of print. This course is suitable for beginners and those with previous bookbinding and printmaking skills.

  • Choose the right materials and techniques for your book projects.

Class format and activities

There will be demonstration, group discussion, one to one tuition and practical project work.

Entry requirements

No previous knowledge of bookbinding or printmaking is required. This class is a great introduction to making books and creative printed book content.

What you need to know before you enrol

Health and Safety information will be given at the start of the course and in subsequent lessons wherever necessary. You will be required to follow good studio etiquette, clean all equipment and help make sure the studio is left tidy at the end of the class.

What you need

Pencil, eraser and notebook for taking notes. Your own sketch books and drawings to work from. We will discuss in the first session if there are any other tools and materials you may want to buy or bring in.

What you can do next

You can progress on to several other bookbinding or printmaking classes. For example, traditional bookbinding, mono-printing, relief printmaking, and making more advanced artist’s book. Please discuss your options with your course tutor.
