What you will learn

Transform your favourite recipes into a beautifully bound hardback book in this five-week workshop. Learn to archive, illustrate, and organise recipes while experimenting with decorative paper-making for custom covers or endpapers. Work collaboratively or independently in a supportive, creative environment. This workshop builds on concepts introduced in previous classes but anyone at any level can still join. Tools and basic materials are provided, with additional materials available for purchase in our workspace.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Master hardback bookbinding to create a durable and personalised recipe book
  • Learn decorative paper-making techniques for crafting custom covers and endpapers.
  • Develop skills in archiving, illustrating, and organising recipe collections creatively.
  • Collaborate or work independently to share and exchange knowledge about favourite recipes.
  • Build confidence in utilising tools and materials for bookbinding, empowering participants to continue their creative journey.

Class format and activities

There will be demonstration, group discussion, one to one tuition and practical project work. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

No previous knowledge of bookbinding is required. This class is a great introduction to making books.

What you need to know before you enrol

Health and Safety information will be given at the start of the course and in subsequent lessons wherever necessary. The studio is accessible via a lift and there is an adjustable height desk available.

What you need

Pencil, eraser, notebook for taking notes. We will discuss in the first session if there are any other tools and materials you may want to buy.
