Explore significant areas in architecture in several countries that contributed to the profound democratic ideals of pre- and post-World War 2.Discover key buildings funded by the state and local authorities that contributed to communities securing schools, health centres, housing and civic amenities. We will look at architectural development in countries such as France, Finland and the UK, as well as context and cultural, political and social implications. We will reflect on the contribution of architects and others such as Alvar Aalto, Berthold Lubetkin, George Scott Williamson, and Innes Hope Pearce. Furthermore, we will study the contribution dominant designs and aesthetics adopted and question why this was so.
