This 16-week non accredited course is for students who have achieved Entry 3 Functional maths but not ready for Level 1. It will take your maths knowledge a step further and develop your confidence with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers. Use fractions, decimals and percentages effectively in your daily life. The course will also prepare you for Functional maths level 1 course.
Students will attend one lesson per week at the Waterloo site and complete regular homework. Assessment methods: Achievement on your course will be measured by formative and self - assessment against the learning outcomes. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets linked to the learning outcomes and future goals.
Maths skills at Entry 3 or equivalent and English/ESOL skills at the same level or equivalent. All new students must take an assessment before they can enroll. Assessment dates are updated regularly on our website. Students who aim to re-take this course will only be invited if their overall attendance and timekeeping have been satisfactory.
This course runs once a week (two hours per lesson), students are expected to attend every lesson. A minimum of 95% attendance and punctuality are required from all students.• This course requires some personal study time in addition homework completion, please set aside an average of 3 hours per week for these activities.
You will need a calculator, writing materials, a notebook, geometry set and a computer/tablet for your homework (Mobile phone alone may not be suitable for completing maths assignments) with Internet access.
