North Kensington Centre
This advanced course at Morley College, North Kensington Centre, is ideal for those wishing to increase both glass technical and design skills, as well as develop a more professional approach. Whilst working on own and group projects you will be encouraged to experiment with different methods of making, extend techniques, and develop personal work and visual identity through individual guidance and support. New and returning students work alongside each other in a mutually supportive environment in which you will learn both from your tutor and each other. All students must follow physical distancing guidelines as explained by your tutor. There is a reduction in the course maximum of students in the Glass studio, which has been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment.
You will practice and develop both skill and creativity through personal project work, with guidance from your tutor. Your tutor will demonstrate and discuss a wide range of methods in kiln-formed glass, surface decoration, architectural glass processes for you to explore as appropriate. You will be encouraged to share practice, self-assess and problem-solve, through both group and individual discussions, to meet your personal learning goals, as discussed with your tutor at the start of the course. You will be introduced to both current and historical glass practices through slideshows and encouraged to visit museums and galleries to complement your contextual study. Your tutor will produce a wide range of resources and reference material for your use. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This course aims to extend techniques and develop personal work and visual identity through individual guidance and support. The course is for students who are suitable for those who have completed a full-time level 3 course or have advanced making skills. This should include a good understanding of the glass process, kiln formed glass and architectural glass techniques. Students will be expected to follow physical distancing guidance. There is a reduced course maximum of students in the studio which has been adapted to facilitate a Covid safe learning environment. We have basic tool in the workshop which has been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment, but we recommend bring and use you own tools. We advise that you also bring and wear a face protector. Students are asked to bring their own apron or coveralls to wear in the studio and a personal hand towel, both to take home and wash between sessions. if you have any concerns or requirements from the course, please discuss this with your tutor who will be happy to give guidance, or assistance if required.
Students should bring ideas or sketches to the first session to show and discuss to the tutor. We recommend bring a notebook, pen and bring you own basic tools for cutting glass. Some students may want to bring their own materials to have a wider range of choice. Students will pay for materials and studio fee.
