What you will learn

Develop your musicianship skills, including rhythm, melody, harmony through navigating music scores and analysing basic structures. Suitable for musicians with knowledge of music theory at Grade 6 or above, who play an instrument or sing and can read music fluently.

Learning Outcomes

  • Class format and activities

    The course will involve listening to recordings, score reading, and analysis, as well as practical exercises on instruments / voice. Singing in relative solfa will be a key component of the course.

    Entry requirements

    You will need to be familiar with music theory to at least ABRSM Grade 6 or equivalent, i.e. you should have a good understanding of scales and chords. Students should also be familiar with relative solfa / tonic solfa / moveable doh.

    Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
