What you will learn

Suitable for players with two terms' experience. Further develop your technique for playing open chords and simple melodies including strumming and picking patterns in folk and pop songs. Please bring your own guitar. This course is a continuation from Acoustic Guitar 1B and therefore requires tutor approval and you are unable to enrol for it online. Please contact the Music department on 020 7450 1838 or email us at music@morleycollege.ac.uk for guidance on how you can get approval.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • A variety of simple strumming patterns to accompany well known songs: - including Rock n Roll and AOR rhythms
  • Develop plectrum skills
  • Develop rhythm skills
  • Read and apply A and E major chords, F major 7, A7, D7, E7 and B7 chords
  • Understanding basic music theory: - notation, rhythm representation and symbols
  • Ability to play a lead riff

Entry requirements

This course is for those with some ability to play acoustic guitar, and knowledge of simple chords, strumming and picking patterns. Ideally you will have taken Acoustic Guitar 1B. Online enrolment on term 3 of this course, starting in April, is only available to those enrolled in the previous term. If you are a current student you will have received an email alerting you to this. If you are new to this course please select 'Ask a Question' and the Music Department will contact you.

What you need to know before you enrol

You will need to be willing and able to do short, regular practice sessions between classes: at least 10-15 minutes, at least 4 times a week.
