What you will learn

This AAT Access Award in Bookkeeping qualification will develop your understanding of the role of the bookkeeper. This qualification is suitable for students with no previous accounting experience but who wish to develop basic bookkeeping skills to improve their employability or to progress in their current occupation. Achievement on your course will be measured by completion of external examinations Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand financial transactions
  • Process customer and supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments
  • Set up accounts
  • Record bank and cash transactions
  • Understand the role of the bookkeeper

Entry requirements

You should have maths and English at Entry 3 or above.

What you need to know before you enrol

Excellent attendance of above 90% is expected from all students.The course fee includes the cost of the accreditation with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), examination fees and some course materials. You will be required to cover the costs of any exam re-sits.

What you need

You will need a computer and internet connection to participate in lessons and complete homework. Lesson will be delivered via online platforms, i.e. Microsoft Teams and Moodle.

Class format and activities

Online delivery with limited face-to-face teaching. You will complete individual and group activities, and you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor.
