What you will learn

A course that focuses solely on vocal technique using a range of exercises that focus on all technical aspects, such as breathing, legato and staccato, vowel and consonant production, extending register etc. It is suitable for all learners with at least a year of experience singing solo repertoire.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Develop your breathing mechanism
  • Extend the register in which you can sing comfortably
  • Project the voice better
  • Control accessing your 'head' and your 'chest' voice
  • Develop a methodical range of regular warm-up exercises for your voice

Class format and activities

This short but intense class takes place in a circle, with the tutor demonstrating and developing a set of warm-up and technical exercises with the group, which cover a wide range of vocal technique (breathing, singing legato and staccato, groups of consonants and vowels etc.) It is best combined with a performance course, such as one of the Singing Studio or Solo Singing courses, in which you can apply the outcomes of their 'workout' for the performance of solo repertoire.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

This course is designed for students who have completed at least one year of solo singing, eg. Solo Singing 2 and above at Morley. Consultation with the tutor is required before enrolling.
