What you will learn

Have a taster of Spanish in a friendly and interactive class and get to grips with the basics that you will need when travelling in Spain or Latin America (e.g. greetings, personal information, food and drink, numbers, money, days of the week). This course is suitable for complete beginners or those wishing to refresh their knowledge of the basics. (Level A1)

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Use basic vocabulary e.g. numbers 1-100, nationalities, days of the week
  • Ask and reply to very simple questions about yourself e.g. Where do you come from?, What languages do you speak?
  • Make a very simple request, ask for clarification

Class format and activities

Practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games)
Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises
Listening for the gist or basic information
Revising topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

This course is aimed at complete beginners.

What you need to know before you enrol

Regular homework is recommended for revision and consolidation ensuring that our learning outcomes are achieved.

The tutor uses VLE to post material from the previous lesson and help you prepare for the forthcoming one. It is important that you have access to a computer for the duration of the course and that you consult the VLE at least once a week.

What you will need for your class

Pen and paper. If required, a course book will be negotiated at the start of term. Please bring your own device, and a notebook and file to each lesson.
