Taiji (T'ai Chi) Fan
What you will learn
Elegant, dramatic and fun, the Chinese fan form is both a martial art and dance form. This short introduction will show you how to use your Qi (energy) in the flowing Taiji movements and improve your co-ordination, flexibility and balance. Students should either have experience of dance or Taiji/Qigong.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Open and close the fan in at least 3 directions
- Perform and remember up to the 5 moves of the Taiji Fan
- Perform basic Taiji steps
- Perform and remember stretch exercises

Constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor will help you succeed during the class.
You will need to have experience of either Taiji, Qigong or Dance.
What you need to know before you enrol
The taiji fan requires a degree of fitness and flexibility. However, these can be developed in the class and students must be aware of and work to their own limits and abilities. All movements can be performed in an upright posture and more gently.
What you will need for your class
Loose-fitting, comfortable clothes. Flat martial arts shoes or trainers that are only for indoor use should be worn. A Taiji Fan if you have one, otherwise you can borrow one from the college.
